Get bewitched by Paris based artist Xenia! This multidisciplinary artist channels her magic, creativity and passions into beautiful pieces with a supernatural charm.

Your work is filled with so much creativity. Your medium ranges from illustration to fashion to sculpture.

Who/what/where are your inspirations?

Thank you!

What inspires me most is history I would say. Details, to be exact. For example my infamous eyes that I make have been inspired by “The Lover`s Eye” jewellery from the Georgian era. Soon I want to create embroidered lingeries, inspired by something that is called “Souvenir Lingerie”. In the 40`s during WWII, soldiers would purchase lingeries for their wives with slogans and images embroidered on them.

I love recreating something old into something new, giving it a new meaning and purpose, to come back to life in a new sense. That’s why my embroideries are also sold in antique frames, which also gives them this feel

What inspires me also, is the female image and form. When I draw, I tend to focus on drawing wonderful girls of all kinds. I find women so fascinating, from our body shapes to our ways. We are like magical beings, walking on earth, often misunderstood, often mysterious and so, oh so complex in a magnificent way.

Last but not least is the Occult.

I practice witchcraft and you can definitely find a lot of this aesthetic in many things I show or do.

Do you feel your creativity is organic/intuitive by nature or do you work hard to keep creative?

It is definitely organic, I don’t work on my creativity at all to be frank with you, I don’t even know where my ideas come from. They seem to pop up randomly in my head. I sure do get inspiration from here and there, from daily activities and interests. Some detail you see on the internet or outside somewhere, in a book or a museum. It then right away makes your brain start working with excitement. Other than that I don’t really work to keep myself creative, I let the creativity come to me.

You currently live in one of the most beautiful cities! Do you have any favourite places in Paris that help inspire you?

I certainly do and I feel very grateful to live in such a city, so rich with history, beauty and art.

About a particular place; I definitely have one place that inspires me the most. It’s Marche aux Puces de Saint-Ouen. I see it like going into a new little town, a town of antiques and so much life! All this art, furniture, oddities, shouting people, history and interesting streets, old and new…it’s everything I love mashed into one. I always get home with not only new purchases but full of new ideas and projects to cook up.

When do you feel your most inspired?

When I am at home. My home is my safe haven; I feel most comfortable and focused there. Home is where all the magic happens :)

What does creativity mean to you?

Creativity is literally everything. From inventing and creating to finding inspiration. It is growth, it is also making mistakes, breaking rules or just simply having fun. It is ideas, imagination, knowledge and invention mashed together. Creativity to me is also freedom of expression, and that—in our modern world—is grand.

Creativity, is one of the richest things we will ever own.

Favorite song / playlist?

Here are the last few songs I listened to on repeat:

1) Magic beans by Atoms for peace

2) Fire & Water by Kedr Livanskiy

3) Eclipse Blue by Nosaj Thing

4) Escape by Sudan Archives

5) Haul by Christian Löffler

6) Insight XVII by Julien Marchal

How do you approach a new piece? What is your process like when creating?

I don’t have a process, I never really planned things out before creating them either,

just went right to it as soon as the idea came into my head and it’s always random.

I remember it drove my art professors mad, not having any structure.

Sometimes I feel like I drift away and get back to reality as soon as it’s finished.

How do you overcome creative challenges? Do you have any routines or mantras that help?

Omg no, it’s still an ongoing struggle to find something that will help me push myself or help me with the obstacles while creating. Sometimes though, I do find myself putting the work aside and concentrating a bit on something completely different like cooking for example, to take a break, and then get back to work once I don’t feel overwhelmed anymore.

Is there anything you would love for people to know about your work?

Not really, I think my work is easy to understand and relate to. I always update people about every new detail as I go.

What's next for you?

Wish I knew :) I live in the moment and never really plan ahead, whatever comes up in my mind in the moment, I bring it to life.
